What is an eBook?

An eBook (short for ‘electronic book’) is a digital version of a printed book, optimised for on-screen reading. While many eBooks do indeed start off as conventional printed books, more and more eBooks are now starting life as an eBook, rather than as a version of a conventional printed book.

What eBook formats are available?

The eBooks on this site are available in PDF and/or ePUB formats. You should make sure you have chosen the format you require before confirming your order. Both formats include digital rights management (DRM) protection. They can be read on a range of reading devices, including computers, smartphones and tablets. Once you have purchase your eBook(s), you will be given the option to download to either Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader to read your eBook(s) in. How do I purchase an eBook?

You can purchase online from this website using a credit card. We use a secure online payment system from Sagepay and never store credit card or payment details. For the eBooks(s) you would like to buy, select your required eBook format option (if shown), and click the ‘Add to basket’ button. Then click the shopping basket icon to go to your shopping basket, and then click the ‘Proceed to checkout’ button. On the checkout page, enter the required fields and click the ‘Place order’ button. Then enter your payment card details and click ‘Proceed’ to complete your purchase.  

Where is my eBook?

If you have purchased an eBook, after making sure you have the right eReader app installed and activated on you device, you can download your eBook(s) from the My Account page on this website here, (You might need to log in first with the user name and password you used on this site – please note, this is not the same as

Why can't I log into my account on this website?

I would like to make a purchase. How do I create an account?

To make a purchase, add the title(s) you would like to buy to your shopping basket, and when you have added all the titles you need, click ‘Proceed to checkout’. On the Checkout page, you will need to enter your billing address details and your email address and a password, and click ‘Place order’ to enter your credit/debit card details. An account will be created for you on this site using the email address and password you specified.

What is Adobe Digital Editions?

Adobe Digital Editions is a free desktop reading application for PCs and Macs that enables you to download eBooks in ePub or web PDF format.

With Adobe Digital Editions, you can open the eBook on your computer and transfer it to other reading devices.

At present Adobe Digital Editions supports more than 50 eReaders, including Sony Readers, Kobo, Nook and Kindle Fire.

As eBook technology is constantly changing, we strongly recommend that you check with the manufacturer to see if your device is compatible before buying an eBook from Lewis Masonic Digital.

How do I install Adobe Digital Editions?

You can install Adobe Digital Editions on your system in several ways. The simplest is to visit the installer page on the Adobe Digital Editions site, from which you can install the software.

To install Adobe Digital Editions go to and select the correct download for you, depending on whether you are using a Mac or PC machine.

After installation, you’ll be asked to activate Adobe Digital Editions. During activation, you’ll have the option to create an Adobe User ID. An Adobe ID enables you to transfer DRM-protected eBooks between multiple reading devices and restore them after a data loss or system reinstallation. If you don’t create an Adobe ID, the software will still download but you will not be able to open any eBooks until the Adobe ID is created.

Can I read PDFs from this site using Adobe Reader or other standard PDF reader programs/apps?

No, the digital rights management (DRM) system used to protect the copyright of the eBooks on this site means our PDFs (and ePubs) cannot be opened on standard PDF readers, such as Adobe Reader. If you do try to open the eBook in Adobe Reader, you will see an error such as ”Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open URLLink(x).acsm’ or Adobe Reader could not open “<book-name>.acsm’ because it is either not supported file type or because the file has been damaged‘.

Can I read eBooks from this site on a Kindle?

No, the digital rights management (DRM) system used to protect the copyright of the eBooks on this site does not work with Kindles*, so you will not be able to read any eBooks purchased from this site on a Kindle. *You can read eBooks purchased on this site on a Kindle Fire, where we recommend downloading the Bluefire app and selecting the ePUB format when making your purchase.

Can I read eBooks from this site on my Kindle Fire, Nook, Kobo or Sony eReader?

Yes, you can use the eReader’s WiFi connection to upload the eBook or you can ‘drag’ it across via a USB cable from your desktop/laptop to your device running either the Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire eReader apps. You will need to authorize your eReader with your Adobe ID when prompted.

How do I install Bluefire reader on my Kindle Fire tablet?

Can you show me how to open my eBook in Bluefire on my iPad?

How many downloads am I permitted?

You have unlimited access to free resources and can download these as many times as you like. For content that needs to be purchased, you have the option to download to a maximum of five devices, including a laptop, a tablet and a smartphone.

Can I print eBooks I’ve bought from this website?

No, you cannot print eBooks bought from this website. Due to the copyright rules to the eBooks sold on this website, the digital rights management (DRM) protection prevents you from printing our eBooks, but if you would like to buy a printed copy of any of our books, please go to

Can I copy my purchased eBooks from the device onto a CD?

No, you can’t copy eBooks from your device onto a CD.

Do I have to be online to read my purchased eBooks?

No. You need to be online to install your eReader software and purchase eBooks. After you install your eReader and download your eBook(s), you can use your eReader offline.

What 'Ebook vendor' should I select when authorising Adobe Digital Editions?

If you are asked to select an eBook Vendor when you authorise Adobe Digital Editions, please select ‘Adobe ID’ from the drop-down list.

With Bluefire on Android, how do I make the text of my eBook bigger?

On a phone or tablet with Android, for an ePUB format eBook, open the eBook in Bluefire and tap the home button to display the settings options. Then used the ‘+’ sign to increase the text size and tap the Save button as shown below. Android-bluefire-settings

With a an eBook in PDF format, the pinch and zoom technique is be used, but you will need to scroll left and right to read your eBook.

With Bluefire on iOS, how do I make the text of my eBook bigger?

On an iPhone or iPad with iOS, for ePUB format eBooks, to make the text of your ebook bigger, open the eBook in Bluefire, and tap on the text to display the menu options and then tap the ‘wheel’ icon as shown below.  iOS-bluefire-settings1

For PDF format eBooks, you can pinch and zoom, but you will need to scroll left and right once you have done this.

I get the error 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open 'URLLink-xx.acsm because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).' when I open my eBook. What does this mean?

This error means you tried to open the eBook in Adobe Reader instead of Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire. You need to download, and authorise Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire in order to open our eBook. Please see our Help Videos for details of how to do this.

I get the error 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open URLLink(x).acsm' when I open my eBook. What should I do?

If you try to open the eBook file downloaded from our site in Adobe Reader instead of Adobe Digital Editions (or Bluefire) you will see this error. You should download, and authorise Adobe Digital Editions in order to open the eBook file.

Can I get a refund for my purchase, or exchange my purchase for another eBook?

All eBook titles bought from Lewis Masonic Digital are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged or returned, unless covered by the The Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you are experiencing technical difficulties buying or downloading an eBook, please review the review the pages under the Support menu, see our Help Videos section or contact us.

Can I cancel my order for the supply of products?

Unless certain exceptions apply, you have the right to cancel your order without giving any reason within 14 days after the day of confirmation of the order (i.e. the date on which we email you to confirm our acceptance of your order), which is when the contract between us is formed. Under one such exception, however, the right of cancellation does not apply to the supply of digital content (including apps, digital software, eBooks, MP3, etc.) which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to supply it immediately, and that you could not cancel it once supply had started. By accepting the Terms of Use and Sale when placing an order or request to redeem a code, you agree that you wish for the supply of the products to begin immediately. You further agree and acknowledge that you lose your right to cancel the contract once the supply of the product has begun.
